The Noir Project is a collective of artists who have come together to promote their works. It was started in 2007 by Joenis Norac, Ali Showkati, & Marc Buell, who can take credit for most of the sophisticated programing other than the basic web designs done by Joenis. The name, initially proposed by Joenis because of his "dark" sense of humor, is derived from the French word noir, or black. Though the project didn't stay as unconventionally dark as Joenis originally expected, there are still aspects of this idea littered across the project and his works. For the most part the project overall stands for "unity," something important to the creators. For any questions, comments, hate mail, information, or if you want contact us or an individual artist check the contact info below. All works are either copy righted by the individual artist or protected under creative commons by The Noir Project. If you are interested in joining learn how to submit your works here: /join.

Currently being "remastered," it was originally called My Friend Reeder Rabbit, now referred to as Reeder or Reeder Rabbit, was started in 2006 by Joenis Norac and Austin Reeder while Joenis was off at school in Santa Cruz. The whole idea originated from AIM messages that the two had during this time. Joenis found the conversations funny enough that he started drawing them out with two rabbits relaying the dialog. The names of the characters Coney Carrot and Reeder Rabbit are variations of their names, with some type of "hare" in the mix. The characters reflect different aspects of Joenis' personality; Reeder is smart, nerdy, often misunderstood and shy. Coney is expressive, artistic, random, doesn't like social norms (so he does things people don't really understand), and gets bored of school or people who don't pay attention to him. Neither are savvy with the ladies, but wish they could be.

& death is a funny joke.

Local Girl's day in pictures chronicles the day in day out experiences of Caroline Clifford's alter-ego. Much like Local Girl's life, sometimes it is interesting and funny - and sometimes it is as dull as dishwater - but you know, sometimes you gotta trudge through swamps to get to the valley.

project: unconscious ink [ui]

creators: joenis norac

posts: thursdays

genre: misc.

contact: joenisnorac@gmail.com

Birthed this out of Joenis Norac's boredom, and from spending an extensive amount of time learning about psychology during his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, he came up with unconscious ink. The start of this project for him was influenced by "the Creatures in My Head," by Andrew Bell, one of his favorite artists. Instead of studying for his degree, Joenis often found himself drawing random "creatures" or designs, which for the most part are what make up this project. In time, it became an outlet to better his illustrations as well as his knowledge of photoshop and illustrator. They are a combination of traditional and computer based art.

Hole Moles is one of Austin Havicans (too) many projects, but shines above the others with its uninterrupted longevity. although only a few people (incl. rothman) see the comic as a form of self-expression, divided into two, and almost always blurring into shades of gray. the topics, content, and ideas i present are either silly and unimportant, or are my own stark perceptions of reality and a presentation of the questions i want answers to. the moles are vehicles that allow me to disagree with myself and common inclinations, which explains why they almost never get along.

Approached by Joenis in early 2007 to join, though the comic was already finished by the time they talked. The comic is simple. A boy named Bobby and a robot named Robbie (no relation to Rob the Bot), have random experiences together. They often find themselves upon a hill to watch the sun set and talk. Jason Poland, originally from Texas now lives in San Diego, California and work as a model builder at a popular theme park in Carlsbad. He is building a lifetime career of his writings and illustrations.
